It
is a variegated light beige sandstone of medium grain where quartz is
predominant. There are also small amounts of micas that provide tiny
shiny points to the cut surface, as well as oxide-hydroxides that
create small veins and give rise to several subvarieties.
The rock is extracted at a sandstone level that is interspersed with both clayey and conglomeratic.
It
is obtained from a quarry within the municipality of Vilviestre del
Pinar, in the province of Burgos, where there are an estimated 500,000
m³. The raw materials are elaborated in this same municipality, so
ashlars and cladding are prepared with finishes such as sawn cut,
honed, bush hammered, pitch-faced, antique and sandblasted.
It is a highly versatile stone that can be used for all kinds of surfacing.
